Some jobs also mean adding a new circuit rather than tapping into an existing one, especially for outdoor lighting or a garden run that has to reach well past the house. We plan that at the quote stage, not partway through the job, so there's no surprise once the cable's already in the ground.

Balmain's Victorian and Edwardian terraces bring their own lighting quirks. Original ceiling roses and cornices are common in the grander rooms, and fitting a modern downlight without damaging either takes a careful hand rather than a standard template.

Older ceilings also hide older wiring, so a lighting job is often the first time in decades anyone has actually looked at what's feeding the existing fittings. That cable gets checked properly, especially where a ceiling rose has been doing double duty as the room's only light for years.

Apartment conversions across the peninsula bring a different challenge: shared ceiling cavities and limited access mean planning the run before a single hole gets cut.

Homes closer to the water, around Elkington Park and the harbour foreshore, tend to bring outdoor lighting into the same conversation as indoor fittings. Garden and entry lighting near the harbour edge needs gear rated for the salt air, not standard indoor fittings pressed into outdoor service.

2. On-site assessment. We look over what the ceiling allows and what's already feeding it, then put a number on paper.
3. Careful fitting. Fixtures hung, wired and tested one by one, with the ceiling left clean.
4. Sign-off. Every fitting switched on and confirmed, with the paperwork for notifiable work sorted before we go.

A handful of downlights typically takes half a day. A full-room relight or new circuit work is scoped and timed honestly upfront.

Outdoor and garden lighting can take a little longer if it means running new cable across the yard. We'll walk you through the run before anything goes in the ground.

Lighting often gets booked alongside other work on the same visit, particularly new ceiling fans where a room is getting both at once, or a full rewire where the ceiling turns up cable that's had its day.
